Andrew & Shona
25th Nov 2000 |
Shona and Andrew were married 25th November 2000 in Ealing, London.
Their wedding stationery carries the "Owl & Pussycat" motif,
because the nursery rhyme played a part in their romance.

The video opens as Andrew is having breakfast in his flat.
While he eats, he talks about how he met Shona in Spain.
Several miles away, Shona is having her hair done at her house.
She is originally from New Zealand, but has spent some years in London.
Andrew is from Manchester, but he grew up in Peru, where his parents were missionaries.

Andrew says that he met Shona because of Maria - Shona's Spanish friend whom he met
through a series of accidents. Maria is Shona's bridesmaid, and she's already at Shona's house.
Maria says "I'm not taking any responsibility", but she enjoys remembering those early days.

Andrew recalls how he phoned Shona's parents in New Zealand to talk about marrying
their daughter. Shona’s mum Irene remembers the other side of the same conversation.

At Haven Green Baptist Church the visiting musicians are going through some songs,
while back at Shona's house Maria is talking to the camera about the day Shona met Andrew.
It's raining hard as Shona leaves her house, holding her skirt out of the water.
Inside the church Andrew is all ready to get started.
She walks down the isle very slowly, with beautiful music.
Haven Green Baptist Church is Shona's local church, but the musicians have come
from Andrew's church in Birmingham. They lead the crowded church in several
worship songs.
The preacher is Andrew's Best Man - another Andrew. He's from Birmingham too.
He talks about how the love of God will resource their marriage.
Andrew and Shona have carefully prepared and memorised the vows they make to each other.
There's loads of applause for "the first kiss", then immediately afterwards
a small crowd of people gather round the couple, lay hands on them and pray for them.
During "the signing of the register" Shona's friend Louise sings,
"When I survey the wonderous cross". Then Andrew and Shona march down
the isle, but not out of the church. To everyone's surprise they cross
over and march up the opposite isle,
then everyone crowds into the central part of the church for a photograph.
The Bride and Groom then march down the isle again, greeting their friends as they go.
The reception is in the church hall, and Shona has overseen the arrangements
with lots of help from members of the church. The tables are beautifully laid out
and the food is fantastic.
After dinner the guests have an opportunity to record their greetings on the video,
and many of them do so.
Some people remember funny stories and jokes, while others record prayers and blessings.
Because Shona is from New Zealand, a group of girls go "Down Under" to record their greetings.
No-one knows for certain where Andrew and Shona will live, but it's likely to be a
long way from London. Their friends make the most of the opportunity to send greetings.
Shona's father Alan gives the traditional after-dinner speech, again reminding Shona and
Andrew to look after each other, and to keep God central in their marriage.
Andrew tells his guests some things he's already told the camera; how they met,
how Maria is really responsible, how they're not sure where they'll end up living.
Shona's brother is MC. He welcomes Andrew to the family, then the Best Man has loads of
funny stories.
After a break there's a traditional First Dance, then loads of disco music.
Several of the dances have a Latin feel.
It's almost midnight when Shona tosses her bouquet, then leaves with Andrew for an undisclosed
location...
