Wedding video

Lainy & Tom
 July 7, 2001
Your wedding day is perhaps the most important day of your life - the fulfilment of months, or even years of planning. You’ll treasure the memories forever.

But it’s all over so fast! The whole day goes by in a blur. That’s why a good video of your wedding is so valuable.

What are those
bridesmaids saying? Your wedding video makes the memories come alive again. You remember all that happened, and also the feelings - the nervousness, the happiness, the silly moments.

Watching the video, you see your wedding from a different viewpoint. You can catch up with relatives, laugh with family, relax with your friends.

What makes a great wedding video?

Obviously the video will show the wedding service and reception as a minimum, but you can add extras to make it more fun! Here are some ideas you might consider.

Louise & David Before the event:

  • Tell his life story with old photos
  • Hear the Best Man's candid thoughts
  • Watch the Bride paint her nails
  • Get the low-down from the Bride's sister
When it's all over:
  • Record your feelings at the end of the day
  • Include photos or video from your honeymoon

Who should
make your video?

Everyone has “a friend with a camcorder” who can take some video, but you’re unlikely to get good results, especially if they have not covered a wedding before. Employ a professional - you won’t regret it!

Here are some pointers to help you select the right person, and get the best result.

  • Book early. The best videographers are booked up well in advance.
  • Look at example tapes, and meet the person who will actually make your recording.
  • Be clear about what should be included, and get a fixed fee in advance.
  • A wedding video is much better if two cameras are used, to catch different angles.
  • If your wedding is in a church, it may impose regulations on recording, or charge an additional fee.
  • Make sure your videographer knows the “order of service”. If you’re planning any surprises, let him in on the secret!
