Jesus' 2000

Towards the end of 1999, West Kirby Christian Centre designed this logo to draw attention to Jesus - the man of the millenium. They wanted to erect a large, illuminated sign in the same style.

In consultation with the church, Delta Lights designed a sign that was to consist of separate letters, each illuminated with hundreds of high-intensity LEDs.

The letters were cut out of Foamalux PVC board, drilled and wired by hand using 2000 LEDs, then sandwiched together with silicone to provide weatherproofing. The job was not a technically demanding one for us, but unusual enough to be included in our gallery!

While the sign was being constructed, the planning authority decreed that the sign should be placed near to street level, and not high up on the church as was originally intended.

This made it potentially vulnerable to vandals, so the decision was made to mount the sign inside a box.

The sign shone brightly throughout the year 2000.
