The clock is an "output only" device - the actual timekeeping software was running on a PC, using a parallel port interface.
In addition to the giant display, the 12 dots used 20W bulbs, so the effect was very bright and eye-catching.
Delta Lights was contacted by Focal Design Ltd, with a requirement for an unusual combination of electronics and software.
Focal Designs build exhibition stands for major clients. The Sage Group wanted this 4' diameter clock integrated into their stand. It doesn't tell the time, but uses giant a LED display to show an estimate of the number of users of Sage business software.
At the time of the exhibition the clock showed 1.2 million, and the number was incremented every minute.
Focal Designs chose Delta Lights because of our experience with both software and electronics, and because of the very short time available - just a few weeks from conception to delivery.
