Why is video expensive?

Many couples are very happy to pay their wedding photographer £600-£700 but expect the video to be half that price.

Making good videos is expensive. If you looked at the cost of equipment alone it will become apparent that the investment in high quality video cameras and editing equipment is far in excess of what a good stills camera and photo equipment costs.

Similarly when you consider the time element, a good video producer will attend your rehearsal (something stills photographers very seldom do!) and then spend at least 6 hours in attendance at the wedding day itself. The editing of the video is also very time consuming, often taking up to 30 hours.

Total time is often more than 40 hours. Labour alone might cost about £400- £500 and then there is the outlay on expensive equipment. If a second camera is used this also adds a substantial amount to the costs. When you add it up, £600-£700 for a wedding video begins to sound less expensive.

Feel free to talk to your video producer about how they work out their costings.
